Downhere, a Canadian group, wrote a beautiful, inspired tune years ago entitled “How Many Kings” (the link is below). We fell in love with its profound Christmas message.
The song asks if you know how many kings abdicated their throne for a world of sinful people. Which king, knowing his people would then reject and crucify him for offering to forgive their sins and give them eternal life, left his throne?
The answer is not a one, because no other person throughout all of history did such a thing. None but the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
We celebrate Christmas not because a baby boy still sleeps in a manger, but because he came to this world to bring us into relationship with God . . . if we’ll accept Him and His gift of life.
The King of Kings came to us from Heaven on a Divine rescue mission. No royal birth, He was wrapped in swaddling cloths and laid in a manger. From the manger to the cross. From the cross to a guarded tomb until His resurrection. From the resurrection to the ascension. To His rightful place in Heaven and in our hearts.
Do you know the only King whose love compelled Him to leave His throne to save you and me?
