MEATIER PROOF
What do C.S. Lewis, Alister McGrath, Lee Stroebel, and Frank Turek have in common?
The original 1300s adage was longer. Meatier, one might say. That’s because the dish included minced meats (dried fruits, nuts, spirits, and fats, etc.), spices, cereal, and sometimes blood. These ingredients were then stuffed into an animal-type casing. However, all too often, sanitary requirements and proper cooking temperatures were not utilized. Hence, the danger in eating such foods.
Thousands of years earlier, royalty had unique ways of ensuring food safety. Cupbearers who would sample their wine and taste their food. If the cupbearer didn’t die, the king would partake. He had proof the food would do him no harm.
From the above information, have you guessed the adage?
SPOILER ALERT: At one time, it was said that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. If said at all, the now-antiquated adage is the proof is in the pudding.
However, there are several Biblical references that predate the pudding. Here’s one of my favorites:
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Ps. 34:8
How lovingly the Lord calls us near and extends the challenge to, in modern terms, check Him out. He has no fear that He won’t pass the sniff test! In other words, He is as trustworthy, as good, and as faithful as He claims. When we pray, He hears our cry. Digging into His word, we'll find proof of His love and merciful goodness there.
Moses found the proof he needed in the desert’s burning bush. If the plagues weren’t enough, all of Israel saw proof of God’s power as the Red Sea opened. At an advanced age, Sarah beheld proof of God’s goodness in her baby Isaac’s face. Ascending to the throne, David experienced anew proof of God’s faithfulness. By law, a woman caught in adultery should’ve been stoned but received proof of God’s saving grace; she was freed and forgiven. Paul and Silas left the prison, not because the jailer let them go but because God’s power mercifully loosed their chains. John wrote what he saw on the Island of Patmos, because God once again proved Himself there, revealing His plan for Jews and Gentiles alike.
Because God’s love couldn’t allow Him to enjoy the beauty of Heaven without us, He sent Jesus to take our place and pay the ultimate price.
Jesus, the promised Messiah in the Old Testament and the risen Savior in the New, still longs to have us come, put our trust in Him, and prove Himself faithful and true. As Psalm 119:103 says, “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
C.S. Lewis, Alister McGrath, Lee Stroebel, and Frank Turek are among those who needed and received indisputable proof of God’s existence. Looking for more evidence? Please read their testimonies, and those recorded throughout history in pages of the Bible. You too will discover proof of the living God.
God can be trusted with our questions and doubts. I came to God with doubts and said, "God, if you are there and Jesus really is your Son, I am inviting Him into my heart." Now, sixty years later, I have so many stories of God's work in my life that I no longer have doubt He is there or that Jesus is His Son and has come into my heart. He is faithful.
Yesterday, today, and forever, our God is amazing, and I love the visuals you give us to see so clearly it shall always be❤️🙌🙌🙌🙌
