Long before COVID-19, there were others who endured dark and uncertain times. They flourished and emerged even more victorious. Today, their stories inspire us to do the same.
Daniel spent a long night in a dark den with lions roaming whisker-close until first light when the king opened the door and praised Daniel’s God.
Before he ascended to the throne of Israel, David hid in hollow caves, not knowing when and where he’d again encounter the king’s wrath.
Amid taunts and jeers, Noah built the first boat ever! Together with his family and a myriad of animals, he rode the waves. At God’s appointed time (which probably couldn’t have been a moment too soon for the boat-dwellers), the cruiser docked on dry ground, and life on Earth began again.
After a long and troublesome journey up Mt. Moriah, Abraham built an altar and obediently raised his knife to kill his son Isaac. God saw his faithfulness and ordered him to stop, providing a ram as a sacrifice instead.
As if it wasn’t enough that his brothers dropped him in a hole, Joseph languished in jail for many years until God raised him up, and he became second in command to Pharaoh.
Moses’s mother had no idea the baby she let drift down the Nile in a basket would save God’s people. We don’t know how long baby Moses sailed along before the Egyptian princess rescued him from the river, but we know God saw His plan through to completion.
Jesus, crucified and laid in a borrowed tomb, burst through the gates of hell (…imagine how satan and his demons trembled!). Then, He showed Himself to His disciples. Days later, He returned to the right hand of the Lord God Almighty where He prays and waits to rapture us. He prays while He waits for us!
Whether quarantined or not, we know we have truly passed from darkness to light. There's been a shaking, a reawakening, an urgency to share the Light that we have for too long kept to ourselves.
Dark times come and go. What counts is what we do in the waiting. I believe, as the song says, it’s time to raise a Hallelujah!
Such a good reminder! Thank you!
