I love this post! I found it fun and informative. It also reminds me to be faithfully telling my children and grandchildren about where God has led me and the miracles He has done (the "what meaneth these stones" of my life). Thank you!
I agree - we need to be intentional about relaying these truths to our children and G'kids - how else will they know the truth? Blessings to you and yours, Robby! :)
Great post, Erma! We as members of the VFW and VFW Auxiliary here in town do our best to engage our young people in patriotic activities. This Memorial Day, we have young volunteers who will assist with the laying of several wreaths representing fallen soldiers from the different branches of the military at the Fort Lyon National cemetery ceremony. Last week, we had a flag retirement ceremony and our entire Jr. High and High School student body attended. We also go to the schools and have the younger students recite the Pledge of Allegiance on a 1:1 basis, then give them little gifts of small flags, pencils with the Pledge on them, etc. It is so important to educate our youth about patriotism, Americanism, and the impact our fallen soldiers have had on the freedoms we enjoy today.
Wow, love what you're doing to educate and promote patriotism, American, and respect for our military-then and now!!! Thank you and God bless America! <3
Great review questions, Erma. You're right, I think not only children associate pools opening on this holiday, but adults do as well. I think adults also associate cookouts, a day off work, a family get-together, Memorial Day sales for shopping. And there is nothing wrong with these associations, as long as the true meaning doesn't get lost on us. And sadly, I'm afraid it does. Thank you for sharing!
I agree with you, Becky!! All the other things we do on a three day weekend are great, but remembering the real meaning should always be at the heart of it. Thanks for stopping by!! :)
